Process:

This WebQuest is going to require 2 - 4 students to work together as group members in order to complete each task.

Group members should refer to the specific tasks on the TASK page.

Each student must use social skills and cooperatively decide how to share the following responsibilities as a member of their group.  In order to help, we have provided the following as a way to help students structure their work according to arrangements with their classroom teacher(s):

TASK 01: any group member.

TASK 02: all group members begin research individually or in miniature groups.  Spread out the work so that some members determine which cities are in significantly Spanish-speaking areas, while others make sure the there are exactly 2 cities in each of the 3 time zones.  As the information is gathered, all members should take notes on population numbers.  Note: this is a good time for group discussion because each member will have to agree on which cities are chosen and there may be better reasons to chose one city over another.

TASK 03: 1 or 2 group members should begin this process while the others individually look over the notes from previous tasks and revisit online and offline resources in order to make sure everything, so far, is accurate. 

TASK 04: 1 or 2 group members should begin this while the others individually share the responsibility of reviewing, editing and revisiting resources in order to make sure that all information in the process of completing all previous tasks is accurate.  Then they may have a group discussion with all members in order to confirm that they all are comfortable with moving forward in the process of completing the final task.

TASK 05: each individual member can begin to discuss with other members how they want the information from all previous tasks to be creatively put into an agreeable final resource, either a poster or digital presentation, in order to share with their class later and to be graded by their teacher.  1 or 2 members should research the definitions of 3 Spanish words while the others work together in the process of transferring all of the group's research into their final presentation/poster.  All members should contribute to the final project and share their ideas on how to artistically finish this assignment with factually accurate research and data.

Important Information:

THIS LESSON INVOLVES THE FOLLOWING:

  • Students will agree upon how to research each task by cooperatively sharing the responsibilities.
  • Each team member should be using the WebQuest Worksheet to take notes; this will help to eliminate errors because students can check and confirm each others work throughout the activity and it will be helpful for the construction of the final presentation/poster.
  • Students should not be idle or looking at unrelated websites while on the computer; if a group member is bored they need to either proofread and edit the group's work from prior tasks or join in where they are needed as the group moves forward in the process of completing all of the tasks!   Note: the final presentation/poster will be only as good as the accuracy of the research throughout the process of completing each individual task.
  • Group members should have fun throughout the process of this activity!
